Salem Speedway 2023

Our first race with the new American Big Rig Racing was held on June 17, 2023 at Salem Speedway in Salem, Indiana. The TLG Peterbilt of Louisville Semi’s on the High Banks Challenge presented by the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers and Red Ball Recycling was one of the biggest and most entertaining events on the High Banks this season. The large crowd was clearly thrilled to see the big rigs back on the track again.

Qualifying (by truck number)

88 - 00 - 4 - 3 - 66 - 46 - 01 - 13 - 20 - 41 - 9 - 21 - 51

Morgan ran the fastest lap time in Qualifying at 24.269 seconds.

Heat Race 1

Start: 88 - 00 - 4 - 3 - 66 - 46

Restart lap 4: 4 - 66 - 46 - 3 - 88

Restart lap 9: 4 - 88 - 46 - 3 - 66

Finish: 4 - 88 - 46 - 3 - 66 -00 (DNF)

Early in the race (lap 4) #88s right front tangled with #00s left rear resulting in a flat tire for #00 and departure from the track. On the restart #88 brought up the rear, then started working forward. On lap 9 #66 blew a right front tire, requiring him to pit and another restart. The tire was changed in time for #66 to pull up to the back of the pack for a 2-lap shoot out. Scott Treadway in #4 finished first with Morgan's Mackvader taking second.

Heat Race 2

Start: 01 - 13 - 20 - 41 - 9 - 21 - 51

Finish: 13 - 01 - 41 - 20 - 21 - 9 - 51

Bob Mitchell in #13 quickly took a commanding lead and stayed there the entire race for a first place finish.

Feature Race:

Start: 88 - 00 - 4 - 3 - 66 - 46 - 01 - 13 - 20 -41 - 9 -21 - 51

Restart (lap20): 00 - 46 - 4 - 88 -66 -

Finish: 00 - 46 - 4 - 88 - 66 - 51 - 13 - 01 - 41 - [9 - 21 - 20 - 3 DNF]

Mackvader stayed near the front, but could not take the lead away from #00. The #46 rubbed the outside wall on the backstretch sending sparks flying and causing trucks #88 and #4 to break hard, but no collisions. The #3 was having mechanical issues and left the track after 15 laps. Several trucks tangled in lap 20 resulting in a restart. Morgan's Mackvader (#88) developed a tire issue, and the right front steer tire finally blew on turn 4 of the final lap. Morgan limped over the finish line in fourth. It was still a great night of racing! Podium winners were 1st - Brian Bayer, 2nd - Nicholas Black, and 3rd - Scott Treadway.

Many thanks to Mackvader crew members Tom, Dan, Josh, and especially Wendy.
