Salem Speedway 2019
Salem Speedway is a high-banked, 1/2-mile oval track, i.e. a fast track. The Bandits raced in the heat on Saturday, June 29th. Morgan finished 3rd in the Main Race here in 2018. This year he finished 2nd after leading for 15 laps.
In the Qualifying laps Morgan placed 5th at 24.461 sec for his best lap, only 0.4 sec behind the leader, #74.
Heat Race 1 was taken by #55, Craig Kruckberg. In Heat 2, lap 5, Austin Hoppe drove the #8 into the wall between turns 3 and 4, ending his night. On the restart #41 hit a rough patch and bounced into the wall just before the start line, sending him the the pits. With the second restart local driver Brian Bayer in #69 took the lead from #3 and won. Heat Race 3 had several lead changes. Morgan finished in 2nd behind #16.
The #88 lost to #3 in the Bandit Shootout that was eventually won by #74, Mark Noble.
In Challenge Race 1 two trucks did not start (#8 & #4). The #46 had issues before heading into the pits. And the race was won by #74, Mark Noble. On pit road the #27 caught fire near the left rear tires. Morgan started Challenge Race 2 in 4th and finished in 2nd behind #69.
The A-Main Race got off to a painful start with #27 hitting #55, then spinning to hit #4 head on after turn 1; both #27 and #4 were done for the night. On lap 2 of the first restart #46 and #66 tangled, then #46 hit #55. On the second restart Mike Morgan in #88 took the lead (beginning of lap 3), #69 spun but recovered, and #02 headed for the pits. The #74 moved up to challenge #88. These two battled for the lead until the side pod of #74 dragged on the track and he was black flagged. In the third restart on lap 17 the #14 jumped into the lead ahead of #88. Ricky Rude won in #14 and Mike Morgan took 2nd in #88.
